Southern Dalarna differs from the rest of Dalarna in many ways, not least in having a very open and fertile landscape. The towns and villages here are also largely untouched and genuinely as they were. If you want to take it to extremes, Southern Dalarna could be called Stockholm´s outdoor playground, as it is just a two-hour journey from the capital.

In olden times, Dalecarlian men and women would walk to Stockholm looking for work. You can still see their footpaths today. Now, visitors arriving by road from Stockholm are greeted by the largest Dala horse in the world in Avesta.

This easy access makes the area an ideal destination not only for summer holidays but also for weekend breaks at any time of year. Summer or winter, Southern Dalarna always offers something exciting to do and beautiful to behold.
